CO2 analysis project starts.
The joint project BiKoAb for the determination of the biogenic CO2 content in flue gases was approved by the BMWE on 01.11.2025.
Since January 2024, waste incineration plants have had to pay a levy for carbon dioxide emissions of fossil origin in accordance with the BEHG Fuel Emissions Trading Act. Emission certificates will have to be purchased from 2027, with prices expected to rise sharply. The costs are already significant for operators. To avoid overpayments, there is great interest in analytical methods for determining the biogenicCO2 content in flue gas that are as precise and inexpensive as possible. For this reason, the partners TU Dresden - Chair of Energy Process Engineering and TU Clausthal - Department of Thermal Process Engineering applied to the Federal Ministry of Economics for a research project as part of the IGF Industrial Collective Research program, in which available methods for determining the biogenic carbon content are to be systematically investigated. While the TU Dresden carries out the theoretical comparison of methods with its expertise, supporting experiments are being carried out in Clausthal on a pilot-scale feed grate system. The BiKoAb project was approved on 01.11.2025 and will run until 30.04.2028.
