On 5 September 2023, 13 sixth form students from the Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium in Bad Harzburg visited the CUTEC Research Centre as part of their physics seminar. Accompanied by their physics teacher Christian Schott, the participants found out about current research activities at Clausthal University of Technology and the CUTEC Research Centre in the field of energy research. The programme was supplemented by a lecture by Dr Andreas Lindermeir on the topic of ‘Hydrogen as a building block of the energy transition’. In addition to the basic application possibilities of hydrogen in a sustainable energy system, the programme also addressed the obstacles and problems of hydrogen technologies. The programme was rounded off with a tour of the CUTEC laboratories and pilot plant halls, during which the students were given an insight into the current research activities of the CUTEC Chemical Energy Systems department. The programme was rounded off with lunch in the Clausthal canteen before the group made their way back to Bad Harzburg.

The feedback from the participants was correspondingly positive: ‘Much better than a day at school!’ was one conclusion. A second visit is planned for December 2023. The Bad Harzburg group will then take a look at the energy storage activities at the site in Goslar. There will certainly be exciting impressions outside of everyday school life.
