KOALA-PLAN

KOmmunales AbwAsser als QueLle für Ammoniumstickstoff, Wasserstoff und BioPLAstik – die Bioraffinerie BüsNau

The KoalAplan project is testing ways of making better use of the raw materials contained in wastewater and using bioeconomic processes to produce marketable products. At the Büsnau wastewater treatment plant, a process is being investigated that consists of chemical, physical and biological process steps and that enables the targeted removal of the organic load from the wastewater. A novel microscreen separates the particulate organic carbon directly after primary sedimentation in order to produce hydrogen (H2) and raw materials for bioplastics from it in the side stream - the actual biorefinery. The planned combination of innovative processes can contribute to a more intensive circular economy and more climate protection.
